The shape of a shirt or blouse is an important and critical issue. To optimize this, we use interlining. In this news item, we mention the functions and use of our top fuse interlining.

What is interlining in general

Interlining in general is very important in apparel manufacturing and is used between two layers of fabric in a garment. Garments with interlining are primarily ensured to keep its shape after wearing, washing and ironing.

Functions of interlining

Interlining has different functions and is available in different weights, colours and compositions. The most important reasons to use interlining in your garment is, to:

  • Control the shape of a specific area of the garment.
  • Improve the appearance of a garment.
  • Give durability to the garment.

Use of Top Fuse interlining

Shirt Interlining or in short “Top Fuse” is used in specific parts of a shirt, for example collar and cuff and front placket.

Fusing recommendations

The three key requirements for successful fusing of the Top Fuse interlining on a shirt fabric are; temperature, pressure and time. An exact balanced combination of these three elements are key for successful fusing as well as a perfectly working fusing press.

Temperature: sufficient temperature should be reached in order to enable the adhesive high-density polyethylene resin to soften and flow.

Pressure: sufficient pressure has to be exerted so that the softened resin will be forced to penetrate the shirt fabric.

Time: enough time is needed to allow the resin to reach its proper softening point and achieve proper flow.

Fusing conditions

In general, following conditions apply;

Temperature: ca 140-150 degrees Celsius

Pressure: ca 1,5-3,0 kg / cm2

Time: ca 12-15 seconds.

We at Tootal Fabrics always recommend to test fusing on all fabrics before starting production as some shirt fabrics have different chemical finishes which can have an impact on the actual fusing results.
